Negotiate like a Pro

A negotiation is like a beautiful painting. You have to understand the artist's motives and intent in order to truly grasp the picture's meaning.

Too often people think getting the other side to agree to your way of seeing things is how to "win" in negotiation.

However, listening is the key to being a successful negotiator. You must listen and let the other side speak in order to understand their motives and intent.

Why are they in the negotiation, what do they want out of it, & what are their long-term & short-term goals?

You have to enter a negotiation confident in your position AND well-versed on the other side's motivation & strategy. Confidence does not mean arrogance or hubris. It means being able to respond or answer in a strategic way when asked about your position.

Some of my successful negotiations include:

  • Successfully negotiated with NFLPA to protect the intellectual property of professional athletes.

  • Successfully lobbied the Texas legislature on behalf of FC Dallas Foundation, Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas Mavericks to allow 50/50 raffles at professional sporting events.

  • Handled all litigious matters internally for a professional soccer team and resolved each one through negotiation 100% of the time.

  • Oversaw and supported outside attorneys on internal litigation preparation for a multi-national company using negotiation which saved the company upwards of $150,000.

  • Saved clients upwards of $50,000 by amicably resolving issues using negotiation tactics.

  • Negotiated for upwards of $200,000 of earned advertising for a professional soccer team.

Almost all conversations are a negotiation or sorts. If you want to be able to articulate your points clearly, listen more keenly, & ultimately have others see your value then signup for my negotiation workshop.
